Albert College is a member of the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). Established in 1978 as a union of the former Canadian headmasters and Headmistresses organizations, CAIS includes fifty-five full members and seven associate members across Canada (and associate members in the U.S.A.).
Member schools vary in size from under 100 to over 1200 students. Some are residential while others are day schools. Some are for boys or girls only, others are co-educational. These are their common characteristics:
- Non-profit institutions with elected Boards of Governors who are at arms length from the daily operation of the school
- Schools which set high standards of character and behaviour for their students, while providing outstanding academic preparation for university
- Inspected by CAIS prior to admission. They are also inspected by the Ministries of Education of their provinces. Many members are also evaluated and accredited periodically by the Canadian Educational Standards Institute (CESI)
- Committed to educational excellence through professional teachers who deal with students and parents on a direct, personal level. Although particular programs and emphasis will vary, all member schools view education as including the intellectual, moral, physical and emotional development of each student.
