Transition to the Middle School

Grade 6 Transition to the Middle School

The transition from childhood to young adulthood begins in grades 7 and 8. This is an important stage in a young persons life where they need guidance and support as they discover who they are.

The Middle School Program is designed to guide students through the transition period from childhood to young adulthood. Our small class sizes give each student the personalized attention that he or she needs at this important stage of discovery.

The Middle School program begins with a well-defined set of values - diligence, honesty, compassion, respect, and service. We promote responsibility through highly developed leadership and community outreach programs, which, in turn, creates independence, fosters social responsibility, enhances self-esteem and boosts self-confidence. Our extracurricular programs are extensive and involve all of our students. In the Middle School, we guide students in the right direction to discover and reach their full potential.

Middle School students have an advisor, who is a faculty member who mentors them for both grades 7 and 8. Students meet with their advisors Monday, Wednesday and Thursday to discuss any problems, ask questions or receive extra help with homework or assignments.

Grade 6 students experience the Senior School and life in Grade 7 though a number of planned activities. Grade 6 students join the grade 7 and 8 classes for lunch at the Senior School and outdoor activities. A dance for the grade 6, 7 and 8 classes is planned towards the end of the year. Grade 6 students also experience classes in the Middle School by joining their peers for a lesson. By introducing grade 6 students to the Senior School gradually, the transition is not as intimidating when it is time to join the Middle School. Friendships have already developed between students in grade 6, 7 and 8, teachers and students have met several times and the school has been explored.

“When students graduate from Albert's Middle School in grade 8, they are prepared to take on the challenges of secondary school .They are more self-confident, independent thinkers, and they have had an opportunity to learn and master a variety of learning skills.” - Jane Moodey, Director of the Middle School

Scholarships & Bursaries

Students graduating from grade 6 and attending the Middle School in grade 7 are eligible to apply for scholarships and bursaries.

Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement, athletic participation, involvement in the Arts and active citizenship. Current students receiving a scholarship will retain that scholarship for as long as they remain in good academic and social standing with the school and need not re-apply each year.

Bursaries are awarded annually to deserving students entering Grades 7 through 12/Post Graduate. Current grade 6 students are also eligible to apply. Bursaries are grants that are based on financial need and are renewable each year. These grants do not require repayment.

Please note that families must have successfully completed the admission process prior to being considered for Albert College financial aid. All applications are reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee.

Please see Scholarship & Bursary for more information or to apply.
