The Parrott Junior School is located next to the Senior School on Albert’s main campus, at 39 Parker Street, Belleville, and is home to Senior Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 6.

Academics:

A comprehensive academic curriculum is offered for students grades 1 to 6. Consistent with the mission of the school, we deliver a program that focuses on the preparation of our students for ongoing study in our Middle School (grades 7 and 8). The program is rich and broad, embracing the holistic development of each child.

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Science and Technology
  • Social Studies
  • Information Literacy
  • French
  • Instrumental Music
  • Vocal Music
  • Visual Arts
  • Drama
  • Physical Education
  • Experiential Learning

Children are presented a rigorous core program in Language and Mathematics, so that they have a solid foundation in basic literacy and numeracy. Our teaching methods are varied in order to accommodate unique differences and learning styles in a supportive environment.

As an independent elementary school, we are not bound by provincial guidelines, although they broadly guide our courses of study. We have the flexibility to extend the Ministry curriculum to challenge students and review content to meet individual interests and needs. Our independence also allows us to incorporate recent research on teaching and learning in an immediate and pragmatic way.

After School Athletics & Activities:

Aside from weekly physical education classes, all students are encouraged to become involved in after-school athletics and school life at the Parrott Junior School. Various sports and activities are offered (subject to interest and staff availability) throughout the school year. Various lunch time athletics and activities are offered throughout the year as well. The following list is a sample of some of the after school athletics and activities which are offered: choir, cross-country running, track and field, chess club, basketball, soccer and intramural games

Leadership and Active Citizenship:

The Junior School promotes Active Citizenship by embracing the core values of participation and a caring community. A number of leadership and community service opportunities exist for students to become actively involved in the civic life of the school and the Belleville community. Senior level students at the Junior School (grades 5 and 6) are encouraged to develop their leadership skills and will work closely with faculty and staff to plan special events within the Junior School and to be ambassadors of the school during open houses and other events.

Learning Outside the Classroom:

Students participate in various excursions to complement their classroom learning. Primary students (grades 1 to 3) generally do not venture outside of the local area. Junior students (grades 4 to 6) may travel as far as Toronto on special trips. There are usually a limited number of spaces available for parents to accompany students on class outings. Interested individuals are encouraged to speak directly to the classroom teacher. Every effort is made to give all interested parents a chance to chaperone at some point during the year.

Under certain circumstances, it may be possible for younger siblings under school age to accompany a class on a local field trip. However, a sibling from another grade in the school may not be withdrawn to join the field trip of another class.
