Learn English in ESL!

|
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program is designed to help students acquire the English language skills necessary to succeed in all courses in which English is the language of instruction at both the secondary and post-secondary level.
All students are tested early in the school year to determine a suitable ESL course offered at one of five levels, A through E. For ESL students who are graduating, we offer a graduate ESL tutorial to improve essay and examination writing skills and TOEFL test preparation. Our goal is to help students make the transition to the core English program in a timely fashion so that they will take core English in grade 10 if they have completed ESL level D or they will take core English in grade 11 or 12 if they have completed ESL level E. Up to three ESL courses will count towards diploma requirements and students may advance through two levels of ESL in one year, earning one credit.
Students in grades seven and eight must take an ESL course at the appropriate level in addition to core English. This approach combines ESL instruction with immersion in a core English course to develop all aspects of a student's language skills.
