Our Facilities

Albert College offers its Middle and Senior School students many different resources and modern facilities including:

• Common room lounge with large screen TV

Albert College's Memorial Chapel is located at the centre of the Senior School. Faculty, boarding staff and students begin their day here with morning announcements, including information about school events and thematic presentations led by the Prefects.

Each Wednesday morning, students wear their dress one uniform for a longer assembly. More formal services are also conducted in November (Remembrance Day) and in December (Candlelight Carol Service). Convocation in June is held outdoors, weather permitting.

Although the heritage of our chapel worship is Christian in nature, Albert College is non-denominational, and great care is taken to respect all religious traditions. Guest speakers and faculty share knowledge of these traditions with the school community. Wednesday announcements also include presentations that raise awareness about important social and world issues.

In order to create an environment of respect and undivided attention to speakers, phones are not permitted in the Memorial Chapel.

The Health and Wellness Centre is located in the house just east of the school, and is accessible to all students. The centre is equipped with beds and examination facilities to deal with health-related issues.

Albert College employs two nurses and a local doctor who attends the school to hold clinics weekly. They have access to numerous medical and paramedical facilities close to the school. The nurses are able to efficiently arrange referrals to specialists, dentists, orthodontists or counselling services.

Albert College also has a wellness counsellor who advocates for the mental health of students by raising their awareness of mental health issues, addressing social/emotional development, conducting short-term counselling interventions and referring students to community resources for longer-term support. 

One of Albert College's many fine features is its beautiful dining room, Ackerman Hall. This great hall has seen many students from all cultures dine together over the years. The flags on display are symbols of the many countries represented in our international community.

Ackerman Hall offers cafeteria style breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as morning and afternoon snacks. It offers high quality, fresh, homemade, wholesome meals seven days a week. A full array of choices include a salad bar at every meal and fresh baked goods including muffins, croissants and dinner rolls, homemade pies and cakes. The menu is planned with consideration being given to the students' eating preferences and allergies, with menu choices like soups, pasta dishes, vegetarian selections and international dishes being some of the favourites. Ackerman Hall is fortunate to have a dedicated staff with years of experience to provide a happy, healthy environment for students.

In order to promote social interaction over meal times, phones are not permitted in Ackerman Hall.

The Middle School classrooms allow students the flexibility to work cross-curricular or cross-grades, to have a large group debate or to discuss concepts in pairs. This collaborative space is an exciting and dynamic learning environment with endless possibilities to engage students and further develop learning skills.

The rooms have been designed to operate as two classrooms, divided by a folding wall, or as one large classroom. Having a SMART Board® on wheels also gives us flexibility of location or even the ability to have two boards in use at the same time during one class.

The folding wall divider has large whiteboards on each panel which encourages idea sharing and allowing students to collaborate. Students who are more visual learners may use the larger whiteboard surfaces to brainstorm ideas or to explore solutions to equations in math class.

Students have the option of using traditional desks or stand-up desks, which offer more movement in the classroom. Benches and bean bag chairs offer an alternate arrangement to facilitate group work. Flexible seating arrangements encourage self-directed learning, offer students the opportunity to openly engage in a larger group discussion or relax in a quiet reading area. Offering our students alternative seating styles supports different learning preferences and aims to embrace our students’ different learning styles.

Albert College offers its Junior School students facilities including:

• Classrooms with natural lighting and flexible seating

• Full service gymnasium
• Playgrounds with Gaga ball pit, seating and swings

The Junior School Great Hall is the most collaborative space in the heart of the school. Students use this space to gather for lunch every day, to rehearse for musical performances and to host presentations. 

In the EPLC, Albert College students have access to:
