I was fortunate to spend my last year of secondary school at Albert College where I felt welcome, heard and accepted. Of my four years of high school, the one year that I spent at AC was when I learned the most both academically and personally. The most helpful thing I learned while at Albert College was to stay true to who I am.
Growing up in a small town, I always felt restricted in some sense. I was expected to act a certain way, dress in specific clothes, and follow the “right” path in life. Being a part of the Albert College community made me realize that everyone is different. Whether it be where you are from, or where you want to go, your life is your choice and should not be negatively influenced by the opinions or directions of others. Dream big, discover who you are and be who you want to be
In September, I joined the University of Toronto to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. This year, in my first year of University, I am looking forward to having the freedom to figure out what makes me who I am, to grow and to gain independence. I am definitely a bit nervous to be living in the big city of Toronto, but I know that my time at Albert College has prepared me to be confident in who I am and to pursue my passions and dreams to the fullest… wherever that may lead me.
