Adventure

The adventure program gives all students the opportunity to learn outside the classroom, to challenge themselves in areas of uncertainty, to develop leadership and teamwork skills and to create fond memories and strong friendships. There are a number of adventure trips offered throughout the year to various locations based on student interest.

Albert offers a new adventure trips each year in response to students' interests and goals around personal growth and leadership.

 

 

 

 

 

At the Junior School and Early Primary Learning Centre (EPLC), field trip possibilities include:

• Conservation areas
• Blades of Glory
• Upper Canada Village
• Air Force Museum
• Ontario Science Centre
• Fish Hatchery in Prince Edward County

Adventure is also promoted with physical activities such as skating days for Grades 1 to 6, ski trip for Grades 4 to 6, and an overnight camping trip for students to develop leadership and team work skills. 

 

Middle School students (Grades 7 and 8) enjoy a number of field trips with adventure elements. The Middle School ends the year with a curriculum-based trip to either Montreal or Quebec City. All these trips are included in the tuition. Possibilities include:

• Art Gallery of Ontario
• Saint-Donat
   

 

At the Senior School (Grades 9 to 12), adventures are further afield and often overnight, with challenges for all levels.

Orientation Camp
Orientation Camp is an Albert tradition dating back to 1973 and is a highlight for students each September. Before classes begin, students and faculty spend a few days together enjoying the Canadian outdoors. During the day, students choose from a variety of activities including kayaking, canoeing, sailing, various sports and games, rock climbing and hiking. In the evenings, everyone gathers around the campfire for skits and songs. Orientation Camp provides a relaxed environment that encourages interaction and cooperation and supports a strong sense of community. Camp is excellent opportunity to meet other students and spend time with teachers outside the classroom.

Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
Participation in the Duke of Ed's International Award can help young people develop essential universal life skills, complementing their formal education. This enables them to grow in confidence and in their ability to contribute positively to their communities. The Duke of Ed program is offered in more than 130 countries and territories.

A program focusing on individual development, personal achievement and self-challenge, the Duke of Edinburgh program is available to anyone between the ages of 14 and 25. As students work towards the levels in the program, they have the opportunity to organize and participate in a variety of expeditions including canoe trips, outdoor camping, dogsledding, snowshoeing and hiking.

March Break Trip
During March break, students have the opportunity to go on an international trip that may also contribute to the silver and gold level Duke of Edinburgh award levels.
