Sustainability at AC

EcoSchools Canada
Since 2022, Albert College has been actively certifying with the EcoSchools program to strengthen our commitment to environmental education and sustainability. Guided by our Climate and Sustainability Prefect who leads the Climate Action Team and the Junior School Eco-Club, our school community collaborates on a wide range of eco-initiatives.
Each year, we take action in key areas, such as curriculum integration, particularly through our new Environmental Science course. We also promote environmental stewardship through whole-school campaigns, including Take Me Outside Day, and campus greening initiatives such as the Adopt-a-Plant program and boarding house projects. Students pursuing the Duke of Edinburgh Award can develop their leadership and environmental stewardship through activities such as planting marram grass in provincial parks to prevent erosion. In addition, we participate in community science projects at local conservation areas, such as water quality monitoring, helping students form meaningful connections with the natural world.

Climate Action Accelerator Program
Albert College has been a founding member of the Climate Action Accelerator Program since 2021, working with other schools to engage in climate action in three school areas: curriculum, school community culture and “greening” our infrastructure.

Earth Rangers
Since 2023, Albert College has participated in the Earth Rangers School Program, a curriculum-aligned initiative that educates students in Grades 1 to 6 about environmental issues and sustainability. The program features presentations that include live or virtual animals, animations and storytelling. Students explore topics such as climate change, biodiversity and sustainable habits. Students also engage in science-based missions, eco-challenges and classroom activities that promote school-wide environmental stewardship.
